Parent Consultation of Young Adults in Crisis
Parents often reach out when a young adult they love is struggling.
It can be difficult to know how much to help, when to step back, what to say, and how to respond when a young adult is anxious, depressed, isolated, stuck, or unsure how to move forward.
I offer consultation for parents and families of young adults navigating anxiety, depression, college difficulties, family conflict, identity questions, relationship struggles, and major life transitions. These consultations can help parents better understand what may be happening emotionally and developmentally, while also thinking clearly about what kind of support is actually useful.
The goal is not to control the young adult or force a solution. The goal is to help parents respond with more steadiness, clarity, and compassion, while avoiding patterns that may unintentionally increase conflict, dependence, avoidance, or shame.
Depending on the situation, consultation may focus on communication, boundaries, treatment planning, family dynamics, college or work concerns, emotional crises, and how parents can remain connected without becoming reactive or over-involved.
I offer parent consultation in Midtown Manhattan near Grand Central, as well as virtual consultation for families located in New York.
